Storage That Protects What Matters

Fine art is sensitive to its environment. Temperature swings, humidity fluctuations, dust, vibration, and ultraviolet light can quietly damage paintings, works on paper, photographs, sculpture, and textiles over months and years. Most of that damage is invisible until it is advanced. By the time a canvas visibly cracks, a varnish clouds, or a frame joint fails, the underlying process has usually been at work for a long time.

Vidro Art Storage operates a dedicated facility in downtown Los Angeles built specifically for the long-term preservation of fine art. Temperature is held steady at 70 degrees Fahrenheit and humidity at 50 percent relative humidity, the museum standard for optimum storage. Every part of the facility, from the climate systems to the racking to the security protocols, is designed around a single question: what does this piece need to survive unchanged?

Whether you need a unit for a single painting during a move, a full collection during a home renovation, or long-term care for a gallery's inventory, we offer flexible terms and secure space that match the scale and timeline of your collection.

Our Storage Process

Every engagement moves through the same four stages. The steps stay the same whether you are storing one piece or one hundred.

  • Consultation and quote. We start with a conversation about what you need to store, how long you expect to store it, and any special handling or access requirements. From there we provide a clear written quote, usually within one business day.
  • Intake and documentation. We pick the artwork up from your location or accept delivery at the facility. Every piece is photographed and condition-noted at intake. A copy of the documentation is retained for your records.
  • Climate-controlled storage. Pieces are placed in the facility and tracked in our inventory. Larger works are racked or crated as appropriate. Conditions are held steady at 70 degrees Fahrenheit and 50 percent humidity.
  • Retrieval and delivery. When you are ready for a piece to come back, we coordinate delivery on your schedule. We can deliver to a gallery for an exhibition, to a residence after renovation, or back to its original location. Condition is re-documented at release.

Why Choose Vidro for Fine Art Storage

We are not a self-storage facility that happens to accept artwork. Our entire business is built around the care, handling, and preservation of fine art, and every decision we make reflects that focus.

Purpose-built facility. Our Los Angeles storage space was designed specifically for fine art. Climate, airflow, security, fire protection, and access are all configured around the needs of the work.

Complete care cycle. Storage is one service in a coordinated offering that also includes professional packing and crating, local art transportation, installation, and cataloging. The same team that picks up your piece is the team that stores it.

Museum-standard conditions. The 70 degree Fahrenheit, 50 percent humidity standard is the museum benchmark for a reason. Stability at those levels allows paint layers, canvas, wood, and paper to reach equilibrium and stay there, which prevents the slow damage that comes from environmental swings.

Human accountability. Every piece is handled by trained specialists, documented at every transition, and tracked through our internal inventory system. Clients know the name of the person coordinating their engagement.

Frequently Asked Questions About Fine Art Storage

What types of artwork do you store?

We store paintings, works on paper, photographs, sculpture, textiles, mixed media, and framed works of any size. Oversized or unusually shaped works are accommodated with custom racking. If you have an unusual piece or are unsure whether it fits, a brief description at the quote stage is usually enough to confirm.

How long can I store my artwork?

Both short-term and long-term storage are available. Short-term engagements typically cover transit housing between locations, storage during a home renovation, or a temporary relocation. Long-term engagements cover ongoing collection care, pieces not currently on display, and collections held while decisions are being made about future placement. Terms are flexible and can be adjusted as your needs change.

Can I visit and inspect my artwork while it is in storage?

Yes. Clients can schedule access to their stored artwork by appointment during business hours, Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm. Picture identification is required at the facility, and access is limited to the client or persons authorized in writing by the client.

What documentation do you provide for stored artwork?

Every piece is photographed and condition-noted at intake. That documentation is retained for the duration of storage and provided to the client on request, which is useful for insurance, estate planning, and future sales or donations. Pieces are re-documented at release so any changes during storage, however rare, are captured.
